Orlando's Mediterranean Style Homes For Sale

In Orlando FL Mediterranean Style homes for sale are actually not that common. Most likely because Realtors do not properly describe them when they list them for sale. After all searches are only as accurate as the data entered. I drive this area all of the time and I know there are many. So what is a Mediterranean style home anyway? Well it is not just a Spanish home rather a Southern European home similar to one of the commonly found architectural home designs found in countries located around the Mediterranean. 

Mediterranean style home features

A Mediterranean style home is designed to compliment its' natural surroundings. It should be beautiful against the sky and when the sun shines upon it. You will often see them with beautiful gardens, pools, fountains and grand entryways. Many lakefront homes in Central Florida either incorporate some of their design features or are of Mediterranean design.

The outside of the home should be bold colored but tasteful. You will see yellows, shades of white and even shades of orange. The roofs should be barrel tiled roofs. Mediterranean homes use these tiles to allow the heat from the sun to vent through the tiles providing a natural barrier between the harsh sun and the interior of the home. The exterior will normally be cement/stucco and incorporate a brick paver style driveway, grand arches in the gates, door ways and often windows. You may or may not see the use of black wrought iron fencing.

The interior of a Mediterranean home

The interior should be a continuation from the exterior. When you enter the home you will most likely see beautiful floor tiles covered by modern yet tasteful and theme oriented rugs. The doorways will also have the arches and may even be wider than normal. One of the benefits of the doorways it the amount of natural light they let through the home which makes it feel more open. I like to see the darker colors of wood used in the interior doors because I believe it makes the home look richer. There is also a good chance any railing will be iron but it is not necessary to still have the home look authentic. You may also see extensive use of higher quality cottons.
